The inauguration ceremony, which took place on 14 March, was attended by the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, the Vice-President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Juan Pedro Yllanes, the Chairman of ACCIONA, Jose Manuel Entrecanales, the CEO of Enagás, Arturo Gonzalo, and the Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, Bart Biebuyck.
The Vice-President was also accompanied by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, the Director General of IDAE, Joan Groizard, the Vice-President and CSO of Grupo Iberostar, Gloria Fluxà, the President of CEMEX EMEA, Sergio Menéndez Medina, the CEO of ACCIONA Energía, Rafael Mateo, and the CEO of Redexis, Fidel López Soria.
The industrial production of renewable hydrogen at the plant will be carried out gradually and as the infrastructures and equipment for its consumption become available as part of the EU-subsidised Green Hysland project, of which Power to Green Hydrogen Mallorca forms part. Green hydrogen will have multiple applications on the island of Mallorca, such as the supply of clean fuel to bus fleets, the generation of heat and electricity for commercial and public buildings, and the creation of a refuelling station.
As for Iberostar Group, the initiative will allow for the supply of green hydrogen energy to all our hotels on Mallorca, cutting their natural gas consumption by between 2% and 5%. This is a further milestone on our road map to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
