GRUPO Iberostar EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN RECEIVES 2013 INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN AWARD FROM THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF JAMAICA

Miguel Fluxà Rosselló Honored For FUNDACIÓN Iberostar Charity Work in Jamaica

Miguel Fluxà Rosselló, executive chairman of GRUPO Iberostar, was the recipient of The American Friends of Jamaica’s 2013 International Humanitarian Award at the charity’s annual Hummingbird Gala, held October 25th at The St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The award was presented by AFJ President and former U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica, Brenda LaGrange Johnson. Other Gala attendees included Consulate of Jamaica to New York, Herman Lamont; former Minister of Tourism, Honorable Edmond Bartlett and AFJ Directors.

“I am sincerely touched by this honor from the AFJ,” said Mr. Fluxà. “I believe that companies have a responsibility to give back to the communities they operate in, and this is why the FUNDACIÓN Iberostar is so dedicated to its work in Jamaica. When you invest in people, especially children at a young age, and give them the tools to achieve great things, all of society benefits.”

Remarked Ambassador Johnson, “Miguel Fluxa is a well-deserved honoree, and we are delighted to welcome him to the AFJ’s community of esteemed honorees.  We salute him and are grateful for his commitment to Jamaica.  We are optimistic about the future of Jamaica.”

As a way to help serve disadvantaged communities around the world, Mr. Fluxà created FUNDACIÓN Iberostar in 2004. This non-profit organization is committed to improving quality of life and living conditions, promoting education, and addressing social and cultural needs of communities in developing countries. Particularly focused on assisting children and the disabled, FUNDACIÓN Iberostar has contributed to multiple projects in cooperation with organizations such as UNICEF and Caritas, in addition to The American Friends of Jamaica.

Specifically in Jamaica, the charity has carried out numerous initiatives, many of which benefit local schools. This includes providing Iberostar technicians to perform essential repairs and maintenance to school buildings, donating essential school supplies for students and inviting teachers to enjoy a day of fun at an Iberostar resort in honor of National Teacher’s Day.

Mr. Fluxà remains steadfast in his commitment to supporting programs that benefit the people of Jamaica and reaffirmed at the Gala the dedication of FUNDACIÓN Iberostar to its efforts in the country.
