Eco Trophea 2021 is one of the most important awards in the European travel industry, founded by DRV in 1987.
Iberostar Group has been recognised in Germany with the Eco Trophea 2021 award, a prestigious and renowned accolade in the travel industry founded by DRV in 1987 that rewards the efforts of national and international companies that effectively contribute to creating and promoting responsible tourism.
The Eco Trophea award especially values the efforts made during 2020 and the most intense months of the Covid-19 pandemic. For Iberostar, the situation caused by the pandemic showed the need for companies to further protect their local communities and their environment. For us, 2020 was the year we achieved the goal of being single-use plastic free in all our hotels and operations globally. Reaching this milestone prompted us to further expand our sustainability goals, focusing our efforts towards a circular economy, being waste-free by 2025 and carbon neutral by 2030, through the implementation of our ambitious Agenda 2030.
During the ceremony, which took place on Friday 29 October, Finn Ackermann, our Commercial Director, was able to explain that "the protection and care of the environment and the commitment to sustainability is in the company's DNA. This vision, which has positioned us as an international leader and benchmark in responsible tourism, has influenced all of the company's strategic decisions over the years. Our goals are ambitious and we are very grateful to have obtained this recognition".
He added: "We are working to achieve all the sustainability goals we set ourselves and we also focus on inspiring and encouraging other market players. It is remarkable that the quality of the customer experience through Wave of Change not only improves, but is perceived by most customers as more valuable and enriching. Our customers respect the strength of companies that care, those that embrace sustainability as a banner, and those that maintain quality in difficult situations".
