IBEROSTAR HOTELS & RESORTS LAUNCHES RESPONSIBLY MEETINGS, GOES BEYOND RECYCLING AND ZERO WASTE

As business travel slowly recovers, Iberostar group seeks to strengthen its core value of building a sustainable tourism experience

Iberostar Group has launched Responsible Meetings in its properties across the Caribbean to reinforce its commitment to responsible tourism. Through this approach, Iberostar has developed a new way to offer eco-friendly meeting, incentive travel, convention, or event experiences.

As corporate travel demand continues to increase, Iberostar aims to build awareness of responsible business travel going beyond recycling and zero waste, offering an innovative, eco-conscious, modern, and responsible option to meet. Working towards circular economy values, Iberostar Group utilizes efficient waste management and reduces disposable options, offering an array of gourmet menus that include responsibly sourced seafood, as well as transforming team-building activities into one-of-a-kind experiences that reinforce a better team connection.

“The core of our goals is to develop experiences for our guests that will be memorable, especially because they know and learn about what it entails to be more sustainably responsible,” shared Shannon Crowther, Director of Meetings and Incentives at Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.

Transforming how incentive trips are perceived, Iberostar Group offers unique activities that tie into one of their main initiatives— the Wave of Change movement. Groups can join team building activities that are focused on sustainable initiatives, including those that are a direct contribution to improving ocean and coastal health, such as planting mangroves and local beach cleanups.

“Through Responsible Meetings, we are contributing to creating a safe environment for our ecosystem,” shared Crowther. “We are generating impact and putting sustainability first, in everything we do and everything we offer our guests.”

Additionally, with the focus on the retention of value in materials to prevent their release into the environment, Iberostar contributes to a circular economy by:

  • Being free of single-use plastics in rooms, meeting spaces, and throughout the property

  • Continuing with a paperless philosophy established in 2017

  • Efficiently managing waste

  • Having on-site composting programs

  • Replacing traditional displays with digital programs and signage

With 80% of its hotels on the seafront and its Caribbean destination properties in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, Iberostar Group has pioneered the ecotourism movement by establishing a more responsible approach to meetings developed by the group’s main priority—sustainability.
