Iberostar Hotels & Resorts continues its strategic plan to expand internationally with the acquisition of a new hotel in Mexico. The cost of the operation, including purchase and renovation, is over $100 million. From today, the five-star hotel complex located in Cancun, the benchmark in the Caribbean for both business and leisure tourism, is now officially owned by the Spanish hotel chain.
The new Iberostar Selection Cancún is a beachfront hotel with 426 fully-equipped rooms and villas including, 16 Junior Suites, 4 Master Suites, 1 Presidential Suite and 2 Villa Beach Suites. For leisure and relaxation, the hotel has 7 infinity pools, perfectly integrated into the surrounding gardens. In addition there is a professional football field, two tennis courts, and a luxurious spa, gym and beauty salon, among other services and amenities.
The hotel complex has a 4,550 sq m Convention Centre, a versatile space, dividable into 22 meeting halls and 10,000 sq m outdoor areas for events and social activities. It is the only hotel in Cancun with an 18-hole golf course - the perfect place for guests to practice their swing whilst taking in the stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.
The Hilton hotel chain will continue running the hotel throughout June and July until it officially closes in August. At this time, Iberostar will begin a complete modernization and renovation of the facilities. The hotel, under the name Iberostar Selection Cancún, plans to reopen on 1st December.
The renovation aims to reach the maximum level of quality set forth by the fundamental pillars of Iberostar: entertainment, restaurant and hotel services - the essence and spirit of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.
The renovation project includes refurbishing the main lobbies, the hotel lobby bar and building new terraces around the pools. Also, in view of promoting the culinary offer, the building plans include a new Grand Buffet and four specialty restaurants: a Gourmet and Japanese restaurants, a Steak House and a Mexican Cantina.
To boost entertainment a new stage/amphitheatre for shows is planned for construction, in addition to a kid’s Star Camp (water park included) and a youths’ Teenieclub.
