Iberostar OPENS A NEW HOTEL IN TUNISIA

This is the company’s sixth hotel in the African country, where it began operating in 1998
In addition to a prime location just a few steps away from Skanes beach in the area around Monastir, the hotel stands out for its excellent service, first class gastronomy and commitment to sustainability

This July, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has opened the new Iberostar Selection Kuriat Palace, its sixth hotel in Tunisia, standing just a few steps away from Skanes beach in the area around Monastir. This new opening is included in the chain’s ocean resort segment, comprising hotels that are ideal for couples or family holidays, and is the latest addition to the Selection portfolio, indicating quality above and beyond traditional 5 star standards.

The Iberostar Selection Kuriat Palace stands on Skanes beach, one of the most highly-rated in Tunisia and that includes a private area for hotel guests. It has been redesigned and transformed in accordance with Mediterranean-style architecture combining indoor and outdoor gardens, and features a stunning Arabian-style décor. This revamped style can be seen throughout the hotel, from the lobby to the 382 rooms, all characterised by impeccable attention to detail.

During the opening event, held on Monday, 8th July, Pedro Serra, Iberostar’s Regional Operations Director for Tunisia, Morocco and Greece, stressed that “Tunisia is a key destination for Iberostar Hotels & Resorts. The chain’s determined commitment to this destination is clearly reflected in the outstanding service and facilities of all six hotels Iberostar operates in the country”.

In this sense, it must be remembered that Iberostar recently received the Tunisia Tourism’s Hospitality Award for Best Hotel Chain in Tunisia.  What’s more, at the same event, the Iberostar Waves Averroes and Iberostar Selection Royal El Mansour won Best Excellence Hotel accolades in the 4 and 5 star categories respectively.

The Iberostar Selection Kuriat Palace hotel is undoubtedly a strategic option for the MICE segment thanks to its five meeting rooms, all fully-equipped to host a full range of events. The hotel’s exceptional organisational know-how is complemented by an outstanding range of gastronomy options, both in the buffet, which includes a show cooking area, and in the à la carte specialities restaurant. Both venues serve a delicious mix of styles and influences, bringing together the best of the Mediterranean and African culinary traditions. In addition to the classic Tunisian dishes, characterised by their intense yet mild flavours, visitors can enjoy international favourites; all seasoned with the proven quality for which Iberostar and its gastronomy are renowned.

The hotel’s five star status is also reflected in Star Prestige, which includes areas reserved exclusively for adults, such as a sun terrace with Bali beds and VIP service. Families will be delighted with the Star Camp entertainment programme for children, rooted in solid values and educational principles with activities based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Highlights include the Aquafun pool with no fewer than 10 slides, guaranteed to thrill and delight younger guests.

Tradition and modernity go hand in hand at the Iberostar Selection Kuriat Palace, offering the very best in cutting-edge hotel innovations and all the traditions of Tunisia with its wealth of geography, history and gastronomy. The Iberostar hotel chain began operating in Tunisia in 1998 and today has more than 2,100 rooms in six hotels in five different areas: Mahdia, Port El Kantaoui, Yasmine, Midoun and now Monastir, situated on the country’s east coast.

Committed to sustainability in Tunisia

The Iberostar Group, with more than 120 four and five star hotels located in the world’s major tourist destinations, is committed to applying a responsible tourist model, actively encouraging a new approach through its Wave of Change movement. An undertaking to care for the world’s seas and oceans that intends to eliminate single use plastic from all bedrooms in all the Group’s hotels during the course of 2019. The ‘Wave of Change’ movement was launched in 2017 as an Iberostar Group initiative in line with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 14, known as ‘Life Below Water’. In keeping with this SDG, Iberostar has come up with three major action plans: removing single use plastic from its hotel rooms, followed by its gradual elimination from all communal areas; encouraging responsible fish consumption and procurement risk assessment, responsibility and sustainability; and improving coastal health.

At the same time, Iberostar has furthered its environmental commitment with projects that promote the circular economy, combat climate change and introduce energy improvements aimed at reducing emissions, increasing the use of renewable energies and optimising water management with the consequent savings in consumption and guaranteed reuse. In the case of the Iberostar Selection Kuriat Palace, this has meant installing low energy consumption lighting, gas absorption chillers for air conditioning, water saving programmes and power management systems in rooms based on shutdown modes and micro switches, amongst other advanced sustainability measures.

Iberostar’s sustainability strategy also includes another major area, namely SDG No. 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. In this sense the company is working on a series of people-centred actions, including projects related to education and training, targeting not only our employees but also the communities it is present in. Attention is also focused on local suppliers in order to contribute to regional economies.
